We spent this past weekend planting 18 trees in our backyard. We wanted a little privacy from our neighbors so we went with arborvitae trees. We planted 14 Pyramidal Arborvitae and 4 Nigra Arborvitae. The day started around 6am when we picked up the trees in Kalona from the Maple Ave Tree Nursery, run by the Amish. One thing this experience has taught us is to double check tags and counts of all the trees and mark what you’ve taken from your lists. Because we didn’t do this we ended up off on our counts twice… We in fact are still missing one of the trees… We should be picking that up this weekend and planting it. With the help of family, friends and heavy machinery borrowed from my dad’s cousin we were able to get all (but one) of the trees in the ground by 6pm. Now all that’s left to do is to water and straighten any trees that settle, smooth out the lawn and reseed it.
I created a time lapse video of most of the day. Sit back and enjoy!
